Jonathan Chou, MD, PhD

Jonathan is a an attending physician in the Genitourinary Medical Oncology Clinic and a lab-based investigator. Jon completed his B.S. in Biological Sciences at Stanford, and his M.D. and Ph.D. in Biomedical Sciences at UCSF, where he was a graduate student with the late Dr. Zena Werb. Jon then completed his internship and residency in Internal Medicine as part of the Molecular Medicine Pathway, and his Fellowship in Medical Oncology at UCSF, where he joined the Genitourinary Oncology group. Jon’s postdoctoral research was conducted with Dr. Felix Feng (Associate Director for Translational Sciences and Professor of Radiation Oncology) and Dr. Alan Ashworth (President of the UCSF Cancer Center and Professor of Medicine), where he studied the role of CDK12 in prostate cancer, and identified several new surface protein targets for prostate and bladder cancer. Jon joined the UCSF faculty as an Instructor in 2020, and became an Assistant Professor in Residence in 2022. Jon’s research has been supported by the Giannini Foundation, the UCSF Prostate Cancer Program, the UCSF Benioff Initiative for Prostate Cancer Research, a Physician’s Research Award from the DOD Prostate Cancer Program, a Young Investigator awards from the Prostate Cancer Foundation (PCF) and Bladder Cancer Advocacy Network (BCAN), and a K08 award from the NCI/NIH. 

Jon and his wife live in San Francisco and enjoy going to the beach and park with their young daughter and Aussiedoodle, Kona. In his free time, Jon enjoys trying new coffee shops and bakeries around the city.
